I should not have built this floor
This is a progress log. This week I did something I shouldn’t have done.
Shader code is my sweet spot. It’s the hardest thing I write here, the only thing that makes me lose track of the hour, and the part I enjoy most.
So, honestly: is it worth anything to you? You’ll probably like the effects. But how long does that last — five minutes? Ten? After that it’s just the room the battle happens in. The value is in the loop, and I knew it the whole time.
I couldn’t stop myself.
Arcs, dynamic lamps, particulate — ordinary, and I won’t pretend otherwise. But look at the floor. The water reflects the room in real time, not a baked cubemap. Agents crossing it push waves from their feet, and the edges keep moving on their own.
Same battle, same seed, same frame — effects off on the left.
60 fps on a 2020 Android phone, with all of this running. Not bad for one person, I think.
Back to the loop.
